Whim W’Him’s all-digital Season 11 continues with the world premiere of a new contemporary dance film of Artistic Director & Founder Olivier Wevers’ critically acclaimed full-length work, “This Is Not The Little Prince." Originally created and produced in 2019, “This Is Not The Little Prince” explores Antoine de Saint-Exupéry’s classic book through the lens of Rene Magritte’s surrealist vision and features original music by composer, multi-instrumentalist and conductor Brian Lawlor, sculptures by Casey Curran, and miniature art by Talia Silveri Wright, with filming and direction by movement photographer and videographer Quinn Wharton.
“This Is Not The Little Prince” does not attempt to translate “The Little Prince” word for word in dance, but rather to tell a human story of self discovery by delving into the rich understory of influences and connections in the life and mind of Antoine de Saint-Exupéry that led to the writing of his most famous book. As Artistic Director & Founder Olivier Wevers notes, "When Saint-Exupéry writes, 'The essential is invisible to the eye,' he invites us to open our hearts. He invites us to stop judging by appearances, to question our interpretations, and go on a journey of discovery. To listen and to tame one another. The way Saint-Exupéry lived his life demonstrates very clearly his hopes and the breadth of his poetry, wherein the journey was more important than the destination. A journey guided by vibrant imagination, the one powerful force that can resist most evil in the world.”
"This Is Not The Little Prince" will be available on Whim W’Him’s streaming service, IN-with-WHIM, Thursday, January 28, 2021 through June 31, 2021.
Whim W’Him will preview the dance films with a free, behind-the-scenes Dance & Tell Facebook Live event at 6:00 p.m. PST, and will launch the films on its paid streaming service, IN-With-WHIM, at 7:00 p.m. PST.
