Book Presentation: GOOD NEWS by Alexa Yasemin Brahme
Thursday, May 21, 2026
Debut author Alexa Yasemin Brahme will discuss her new novel GOOD NEWS (Algonquin Books)—an enticing, stylish debut, in the vein of Lily King, Sarah Thankam Mathews, and Coco Mellors. In GOOD NEWS, a young Turkish-American painter attempts to make a life as a serious artist, a good immigrant daughter, and soon (maybe) a wife—until her smooth-talking art-critic ex resurfaces, and an inevitable mess ensues. Jenny Jackson, bestselling author of Pineapple Street, raves: “Fresh, daring, and sly, Good News surprised and delighted me on every page. Alexa Yasemin Brahme intertwines a young artist’s twin desires: to create and to become.” Cat Shook says, "Not since Lily King's Writers and Lovers have I so feverishly rooted for a young artist to find her way. A perfect debut novel.” Brahme will be in conversation with Seattle-based artist Yasiman Ahsani.
Interview Bio: Yasiman “Yaz” Ahsani is a first generation Iranian-American visual artist based in Seattle. After a decade in the video game industry, she now works as a Graphic Designer at Pokémon. On the weekends, she can be found working on her next painting or playing guitar in local riot grrrl band LEMON BOY.
General Event Run: Brahme will read an excerpt from her novel, followed by a conversation moderated by Yasiman Ahsani. There will also be time for audience Q&A, and Brahme will be available afterward to sign copies of her book.
Reduced admission to this event is made possible with support from 4Culture.
