'The Prison Within' - Film Screening
Saturday, September 21
Come join Collective Justice, Look2Justice and the Langston Hughes Performing Arts Institute for film screening of 'The Prison Within' and a night of restorative storytelling and gathering as we explore what it means to heal on all sides of harm.
The Prison Within is a film that exposes the U.S. prison system and the cycles of violence and trauma - on both sides of the wall - that are perpetuated by it. Prisoners and survivors come together and participate in VOEG (Victim Offender Education Group) —an innovative restorative justice program in San Quentin prison. Together, the prisoners and survivors confront and expose the impact of harms they’ve experienced throughout their lives, and a healing path through.
Along with the film screening, afterwards we will be hosting a panel featuring local and national leaders in the restorative justice movement:
- Katherin Hervey, 'The Prison Within', Director and Producer
- Erin Kenway, 'The Prison Within', Executive Director and Producer
- Troy Williams, 'The Prison Within' Cinematographer, Executive Director of Restorative Media, Restorative Justice Facilitator
- Michael Nelson, 'The Prison Within' Cast Member, Executive Director of Kid C.A.T., Restorative Justice Trainer/Facilitator
- Lupe Vidaurri, Collective Justice Co-Founder and HEAL Co-Director
- Anthony Wright, Collective Justice Fellow and HEAL Circle Alumnus
