Art’s capacity to delight and to make you curious is a characteristic trait of the Netherlands-based studio DRIFT, founded in 2007 by Dutch artists Lonneke Gordijn (born 1980) and Ralph Nauta (born 1978). The duo leads a multidisciplinary team that creates experiential sculptures, installations, and performances.
Meadow consists of a mesmerizing array of animated flowers suspended high above the ground. In nature, weather and changing environments necessitate adaptability for all living things. Flowers, for example, respond to the light of the sun. In DRIFT’s inverted meadow, the flowers gently open and close in response to the viewer, who takes the place of the sun. The colors of the flowers are inspired by the shades of the local flora, making each installation special and specific to its location.
Here and in other works, the artists create experiences that inspire a reconnection to our planet.
