SRJO Plays Blues and the Abstract Truth

While the concert theme is decidedly a focus on the Oliver Nelson classic “The Blues and the Abstract Truth," the Seattle Repertory Jazz Orchestra will debuting a brand-new composition by Artistic Director Michael Brockman called "The Summertime Blues."

Brockman has subtitled the song What Bess meant to sing to Porgy as the piece is a reference to "Summertime," the famous aria by George Gershwin and the most recognized piece in his 1935 opera, Porgy and Bess. The lyrics of Brockman's new piece tell us that the fish may be jumping, your daddy may be rich, and your momma may be good looking, but that doesn't mean you won't get the blues.

Special Guest Vocalist Jacqueline Tabor will be featured on "The Summertime Blues" as well as other songs during the concert. Join us, and be among the first audiences to hear this exciting new selection.
