Meet the leaders of the TeenTix Newsroom!

TeenTix is proud to announce the 2020/2021 Teen Editorial Staff. This year's Teen Editorial Staff (TEDS) is comprised of six teens: Anya Shukla, Eleanor Cenname, Lily Williamson, Lucia McLaren, Mila Borowski, and Triona Suiter. The TEDS are the leaders of the TeenTix Newsroom, and work to curate reviews and arts coverage for the TeenTix blog. Teen Editorial Staff members decide which TeenTix Arts Partners' events to cover each month, write an editorial about their curatorial choices, and assign Newsroom writers to review each event. TEDS members interface with TeenTix Arts Partners to set up press tickets for each review, and edit all Newsroom writing before it is published on the TeenTix blog. The Teen Editorial Staff is a group of skilled writers, editors, and leaders, who keep the pulse of the TeenTix Press Corps and the Seattle arts scene.

Statement from this year's Teen Editorial Staff:

“The goal of the Teen Editorial Staff is to promote our local Arts Partners while amplifying the perspectives of the next generation of arts patrons. The TeenTix Newsroom fosters arts journalism by teens, for teens. We are dedicated to elevating youth voices and encouraging them to think critically about the arts and media they consume.”

About the Teen Editors

Anya Shukla

Anya (she/her) is a 12th grader at Lakeside School, where she sings acapella and writes for the newspaper. She joined TEDS to support teens interested in arts criticism and find others who love writing just as much as she does. Beyond the Newsroom, Anya also serves on the TeenTix New Guard and is the co-founder of The Colorization Collective, an organization that supports teens artists of color.

Eleanor Cenname

Eleanor (she/her) is a junior at The Downtown School where she leads an ACLU chapter and her school’s Art Club. Outside of school, Eleanor competes in triathlons, reads voraciously, and listens to podcasts. Eleanor believes that purposeful art cultivates empathy and is fascinated by how art can be a force for change. She knows that young people are passionate agents of social change and hopes to make the Newsroom a space where young people’s voices are amplified. After two years as a Press Corps Writer, Eleanor has joined the Teen Editorial Staff where she intends to learn from her fellow editors and the Press Corps Writers.

Lily Williamson

Lily (she/her) is beginning her second year at the University of Washington, where she studies environmental and political science and edits the undergraduate history journal. This will be her third year as a member of TeenTix's Teen Editorial Staff. TeenTix has inspired her to grow as a consumer of art, a writer, and an editor, and has helped her learn how art can be a vehicle for social change. Lily hopes to use her position on TEDS to amplify different perspectives and encourage arts organizations to better accommodate the needs of the next generation of art lovers.

Lucia McLaren

Lucia (she/her) is a junior at University Prep. Outside of school, she’s a ballet student of seven years at Dance Fremont, and she often spends time learning about whatever random science topic has occupied her attention for the month. This is her second year working with TeenTix, though it’s already changed her perspective towards writing significantly. She joined the TEDS to solidify her commitment towards the diverse, impactful representation of arts in the Seattle area.

Mila Borowski

Mila (she/her) is a senior at Lakeside School. She loves being part of the TeenTix community because it encourages her to engage with a variety of art events and empowers her to be confident in her opinions of them. She is so excited to be able to foster this same environment for others as an editor now, after being a writer for the Newsroom for over a year. Her most memorable art event was getting to watch The Hunchback of Notre Dame at The 5th Avenue Theatre where she cried uncontrollably in public. When not enjoying the wonderful art in Seattle, she can be found reading, with her dog curled up beside her, desperately avoiding math homework.

Triona Suiter

Triona (she/her) is a sophomore at Ingraham HS, where she is an enthusiastic participant in both drama and choir. This is her first year as a Teen Editor, and her third year as a member of the TeenTix Press Corps. She has been involved in the arts since she was a small child. She enjoys backpacking and mountain biking, and she also plays water polo on her school team. Her favorite book is Un Lun Dun by China Miéville, her favorite holiday is Halloween, and listing all of her favorite musicals would probably take an entire page.
